Egg Drop

While dear Mrs. Getsova was still with us, we undertook an egg drop project. The goal of the project was to practice teamwork, though for many, the project turned into a competition of who could create the nicest looking projectile which would protect the group's egg from a fifteen foot drop. My group's design evolved from a cushioning structure, to a flat raft (the idea behind this was that the surface area would soften the impact... NOT), and eventually to a flat raft which had cushioning on the bottom with a light, effective parachute on the top. This turned out to be an extremely effective design as the egg survived multiple fifteen foot drops with nothing more than a few microfractures which were barely visible.

Advertising Campaign

During second semester AVID, I had Miss Roseth (everybody loves Miss Roseth!!!) for AVID, and we had much more fun in class. When we studied the effect that the media had on the population we took on a project to create our own advertising campaign which would utilize the same effects mainstream media does. Bryanna and I chose to work together and collaborated to create the idea of a teddy bear that made a farting sound and release brown powder/gas and jumped in reaction. This utilized the concept of humor and created great laughs among students.

Ten Years From Now

During AVID, one of our goals, similar to that of Counseling 105, was to plan out our future, if even slightly. This essay was designed to ask students where they saw themselves in ten years, what they would be doing, and who they would be with. My essay exactly detailed what I would create in presentation form a month later for Counseling 105. I plan to graduate with a 4.0 or higher GPA, apply and enter University of Michigan or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and double major in Aerospace Engineering and Physics or Business. After I earn my Bachelor's of Science, I will attend graduate school at either university to earn my Master's of Science, and following that earn my PhD in Aerospace Engineering. During my attendance at university, I hope to attain an internship at NASA or an enterprise similar to Burt Rutan's Virgin Galactic company. However, these plans are liable to change. I may decide to attend at University of Oxford which is rumored to have another excellent aerospace program and intern at the European Space Agency.

The Brain Project: Cerebellum

In AVID, we started to study the brain, for what reason, I know not, but we did. When we completed our studying of that specific unit, we started a project in which students would conduct more in-depth research into a specific part of the brain. We wound up having to create a PowerPoint Presentation and write an essay. Students worked in groups to create a presentation to assist them in teaching other students about the different parts of the brain. My partner and I studied the cerebellum, and created a comprehensive presentation detailing all there was to know about it. The essay simply reworded the PowerPoint for paragraph form.
